Slugs Take Down Pioneers in Overtime

In the rubber match between the only two Division III programs in Northern California the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs came out ahead of the CSU East Bay Pioneers 10 to 9 in overtime. In an exciting game in which neither team ever led by more than two goals CSU East Bay game back with two goals in the final two minutes of regulation to push the game into overtime. With about thirty seconds left in the second overtime period Senior Chelsea Meyers stole the ball and started the UCSC counterattack. Senior Kate Simonis had seen that Chelsea was going to steal the ball and left early to go onto offense ending up with a three body length advantage over the East Bay player she had been defending. Chelsea passed ahead to Kate who set the goalie with a quick fake and then shot the ball cleanly against the back of the net for the winning goal.
