Murphy Earns All-Academic Team Honors

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UCSC Cross Country standout Mikayla Murphy has been named to the 2008 NCAA Division III USTFCCCA Women’s All-Academic Team for Cross Country. She earned the award as a molecular biology major with a 3.7 GPA, while finishing 58th at the 2008 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships this past fall. This is the first such award for UCSC Cross Country.

This is Mikayla's third individual award for her 2008 cross country campaign. She previously was named to the NCAA DIII All West Region team with a 2nd place finish at the Regional Championships. She was next named to the NCAA DIII Independents First Team. Murphy is also the school record holder in both cross country and track & field from 2,000-10,000 meters.

Her outdoor track season starts next Saturday at the Gator Preview Meet hosted by SF State. She looks to be one the top DIII runners in the Nation for 5,000 & 10,000 meters on the track this season.

Congratulations to Mikayla!!!
