DIII national Cross Country Championships.
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- On Saturday 11/15 the UCSC Women's Cross Country team competed at the NCAA DIII West Region Championships in Salem, OR. The team finished 7th overall, their highest finish in program history. That finish was due in no small part to the performances the Slugs' top two runners, Mikayla Murphy (So, San Luis Obispo, CA) and Carina Hendricks (Sr, Santa Rosa, CA).

Both runners qualified individually for the 2008 NCAA DIII National Cross Country Championships to be held this Saturday 11/22 in Hanover, IN.

Mikayla continued her amazing run this season, finishing 2nd in the West in a school record time of 21:33 for 6k. She was just behind Willamette University's Maddie Coffman, who finished 11th at last year's NCAA DIII XC Championships. Mikayla's time was the 8th fastest time from ALL 8 Regions that raced across the country on Saturday. She is truly one of the nation's fastest collegiete distance runners. She was also 13th overall at the 2008 Wharf to Wharf.

Carina has made her Senior year a special one, and continued that on Saturday. She finished 14th overall in a personal record time of 22:45, grabbing the last individual spot to Nationals. She finished a scant .08 seconds ahead of 15th place.

The Slugs leave for Hanover on Thursday, fans can watch the race live-stream on the internet at http://www.hanover.edu/athletics/ccnationals/racevideo

The Women's 6k goes off at NOON EST, 9am PST
