UCSC Slugs Are Starting Off Strong
IRVINE, CA -- The Women's Cross Country team traveled down south Saturday to race in the UC Irvine Invite, finishing 4th out of 11 teams in the Women's "B" race. The team scored 95 points, one point ahead of 5th place DIII West Region team Pomona Pitzer. Things looked a little different up front for the Slugs on Saturday; junior standout Mikayla Murphy ran on her own in the "A" race, comprised of mostly

More Awards for Slug Runners
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- The ENTIRE UCSC Women's Cross
Country team has been selected as a 2008 NCAA Division III All Academic
Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCA). The selection criteria was based on overall
team GPA, and required that the team finish in the top half of their
2008 NCAA Regional Championship. The Slug Cross Country team finished
7th in the West Region in '08 and had a Fall '08 Team GPA of 3.38.
This is the first ever post-season team award for UC Santa Cruz
Cross Country..

Murphy Earns All-Academic Team Honors
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- UCSC Cross Country standout Mikayla
Murphy has been named to the 2008 NCAA Division III USTFCCCA Women’s
All-Academic Team for Cross Country. She earned the award as a molecular
biology major with a 3.7 GPA, while finishing 58th at the 2008 NCAA
DIII Cross Country Championships this past fall. This is the first
such award for UCSC Cross Country. (more)

Women's Cross Country Receives Four All-Conference
Honors
Boothe Named DIII Independents Co-Coach of the Year
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- The 2008 Women’s Cross Country
season has proved to be one of the most successful running seasons
in the programs young history. Recently the program received four
All-Conference honors from the Association of Division III Independents.
At the top of the list was Head Coach Adam Boothe, who was named
the women’s co-coach of the year, sharing the honors with
Judy Hawkins (University of Dallas). (more)

Murphy and Hendricks Qualify for NCAA DIII
Cross Country Championships
SANTA CRUZ, CA -- On Saturday 11/15 the UCSC Women's
Cross Country team competed at the NCAA DIII West Region Championships
in Salem, OR. The team finished 7th overall, their highest finish
in program history. That finish was due in no small part to the
performances the Slugs' top two runners, Mikayla Murphy and Carina
Hendricks. Both runners qualified individually for the 2008 NCAA
DIII Cross Country Championships (more)
