UC Santa Cruz closed out the 2017-18 year by honoring its over 300 student-athletes in the annual Student-Athlete Awards banquet.

"Tonight is about you all, the student athletes," said Director of Athletics Susan W. Harriman at the start of the evening's proceedings. "All the hard work and everything you had to go through the past couple of years, I applaud you hung in there."

31 athletes were honored for having a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher, with runner Dante Capone and tennis player Therese Recidoro honored as the top overall GPA. Men's and Women's Tennis were acknowledged as having the highest Team GPAs, with the men winning for a second-straight year.

52 graduating seniors were commended. Tennis Coach Mike Napoli was saluted in a retirement ceremony and won Coach of the year as voted on by his fellow coaches.

Soccer player Luke Pfeiffer and tennis player Chad Stone shared honors as the Most Inspirational Student Athlete.

Soccer Captain Claire Lim repeated as the outstanding Female Student Athlete of the Year. Volleyball standout Lake Merchen won top Male Student-Athlete accolades to go with the award he won his sophomore year.
