Men's Basketball heads to Hawai'i to take on Principia and Messiah

After a nine-day layoff for finals, UC Santa Cruz looks to continue the best start in school history when they take on Principia and Messiah in the 2017 Hoops in Hawai'i Classic. 

Series Notes: It's the first time UCSC (6-4) has faced either Principia or Messiah.

Aloha: It's the first time UCSC has visited the 50th state since 2004, when they played Puget Sound and George Fox in Honolulu. Hawai'i becomes the 8th diferent state the Slugs have played in in coach Ron Dubois's six seasons.

Last time out: The Banana Slugs went 2-1 on a pre-exam roadtrip to southern California where they won against old rival Chapman 72-65 for their first win in Orange County in 18 years. After a loss at Cal Tech, the Slugs closed the trip with an 84-76 overtime win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Banana Slug leaders: Sam Gabbard averages 18.1 points a game and 8.7 rebounds. The has led UCSC in scoring in 7 of the ten games played so far. Corey Cilia is averaging 12.4 points. Tre Weston has scored 9.3 points/game 7.9 rebounds and leads the team with 68.5 field goal percentage. Adam Marlow averages 5.3 assists per contest. 

About Principia: The are 2-5 this season, with a 2-1 record in the SLIAC.  Trevaughn Goodman leads them in points and assists, averaging 18.4 and 2.4 per game in both categories. Parker Davidson averages 13.9 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds.

About Messiah: The Falcons come to Oahu with a 6-3 record, ncluding 2-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Colin Sareyka averages 18.8 points, 5.3 assists and 1.8 steals a game. Neil Murren averages 11.0 points. Josh Darville averages 10.3 rebounds a game.
