REDLANDS (10-1) - The Banana Slugs wrapped up their trip to Southern California as they took on University of Redlands in Redlands. The Bulldogs scored a pair of goals in each half to defeat the Banana Slugs 4-0.
In their last match, the Banana Slugs lost 1-0, in overtime, to California Lutheran University on Wednesday in Thursday while the Bulldogs won 1-0 over Chapman University in Redlands on Wednesday.
In the first half, the two teams would play back and forth soccer for the majority of the half. With 5:37 left in the half, the Bulldogs would score first. Antony Chonga scored on a shot to the bottom left post to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The last shot for the Banana Slugs in the half came from Ari Sidman with 4:36 left in the half but his shot was blocked. With twenty-eight seconds left in the half, Chonga would convert a penalty kick to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, the two teams would play back and forth soccer for the first twenty minutes of the half. With 22:43 left, Derrin Valeri would score to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Valeri would strike again after a pass from Chase Boone to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead. The final chance for the Banana Slugs came with 3:46 left off the foot of James Allison, but his shot was saved by Bulldogs' goalie Noah Natividad. The loss extended the Banana Slugs' losing streak to two.
Allison had three shots to lead the Banana Slugs while for University of Redlands, Chonga had a match high five shots. John Melito got the win for the Bulldogs and Andrew Pimentel got the loss for the Banana Slugs. The Bulldogs outshot the Banana Slugs 25-6 and the Bulldogs had five corner kicks (6-1) than did the Banana Slugs.
The Banana Slugs will come home for their next match as they take on University of La Verne in Santa Cruz. The match is set for a 3:00 pm start time on Wednesday.
