Slugs win their D-III season opener against MSOE

MILWAUKEE, WI -- UC Santa Cruz Men's Volleyball defeated the MSOE Raiders.  The Slugs won in four sets with the following scores: 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17.

Senior Outside Hitter Salvatore LaCavera III led the team with 15 kills (0.343 pct) followed by Junior Outside Hitter Jacob Landel with 14 kills (0.375 pct) and Senior Opposite Hitter Harland Frost with 12 kills (0.333 pct).  Senior Libero Mauro Salinas led the team with 14 digs.  Senior Setter Kevin Crosby contributed 47 assists on the match.

UCSC began the match with a bang as they rolled through the Raiders with a convincing win.  MSOE bounced back and managed to out-attack the Slugs, taking the second set.  The Slugs fired back in the third set and managed to out hit the opponents for the remainder of the match.

This win brings their overall record to 4-4 (1-0 D-III, 1-0 CVC).

The Slugs are set to take on rival opponents Carthage College.  Last year, the Slugs narrowly lost to the Red Men in the Semifinals of the NCAA National Championships and look to settle the score early this season.  The match is scheduled for Friday, March 8 at 2:00 PM PST.
