UC Santa Cruz golf places 6th at American Southwest Conference championships

CORINTH, TX - UC Santa Cruz shot a team score of 742 (364-378) to finish sixth out of nine teams at the American Southwest Conference championships held at Oakmont Country Club.

Senior Olivia Bean improved by six strokes to finish tied for 21st with a 22-over 172 (89-83).

"We ended the tournament in 6th place, a long way from last place which is where we were in the beginning of the season," said head coach Paulette Pera. "There was a lot of growth in all of our players this season.  All of them fired their career best round ever during a tournament this year, almost all in the second half of the season."

Freshman  Sean Hong finished tied for 27th with 36-over 184 (89-95). Tiffany Guzman tied for 29th with 185 (89-96) and Julia Martin was 33rd at 201(97-104).
Freshman Maia Dupuis was 36th, shooting 219.

"We had a great first day of the conference finals, we had three scores in the 80's and still left some out there!" said Pera. "Sean had her best score ever on Monday tied with two of her teammates Olivia and Tiffany. We moved up two spaces from our original seed!  On Tuesday we just couldn't hold on to our position. Olivia shot an 83 with 6 sixes.  Other than those 6 holes, she had a great final round to end her last tournament with the Slugs."

Morgan Loth and Amy Cox of UT-Tyler finished 1-2 shooting a 3-under 147 and 1-over 151 respectively to help UT-Tyler win their fourth consecutive league title. It was Loth's second-straight individual conference title.

The Patriots shot a two-day score of 608, nineteen strokes better than second-placed Mary Hardin-Baylor.
