AUSTIN, TX - Freshman Kylie Edwards led UC Santa Cruz with a 20th place showing at the American Southwest Conference championships held at the Avery Ranch Golf Club.

Edwards took a stroke off yesterday's Round One score of 87, finishing with a 14-over-86 on Tuesday for a two-day score of 29-over 173. Edwards finished 23 strokes behind medalist McKenna Ralston of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

"Kylie has improved her scoring average by 15 shots this season. She really wants it for the Slugs and is the first building block in creating a championship winning team for our program," said head coach Paulette Pera. "She has the enthusiasm to raise the bar and bring the rest of the team with her."

At the champions' banquet, junior Jessica Salazar won ASC Newcomer of the Year. As a team UCSC shot a 769 over the two rounds for eigth place.

UMHB won the team title by seven strokes in a playoff against UT-Tyler, breaking the Patriots' four-year hold on the ASC title.
