Slugs Fall to Pacific Union

SANTA CRUZ, Cali - Tatum Novitsky recorded 14 kills for a season high, but the UC Santa Cruz volleyball team fell to Pacific Union of the NAIA, 3-1 (25-16, 25-14, 21-25, 25-23) Wednesday evening at the West Field House. 

Novitsky also recorded her first double-double of the season and second of her career with 16 digs to go with her 32 kills. She hit .297 in the match with 37 attempts and only 3 hitting errors. 

Others with key contributions included Krysti Photias who led the team with 22 assists, Kallan Bedard with 12 kills, Rachel Sveiven with 11 digs, and Sierra Yuen who finished with 5 blocks.  

After falling 25-16 and 25-14 in the first two sets, UC Santa Cruz rebounded in set three with a 25-21 win.  The team overcame a late surge by Pacific Union to secure the set.

Both teams battled in the fouth set as the teams traded the lead multiple times.  An attack error by Novitsky on match point ended UCSC's comback.  

UCSC continues at the Posada Royalle Invitational at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, CA with two matches on Friday.  The Slugs face La Verne at 3:00 p.m. and Washington (Mo.) at 5:00 p.m.
