Slugs Return from Season Opening Road Trip

Portland, OR -- The UC Santa Cruz Men's basketball team opened their 2012-13 season with a Road trip to Portland, Oregon for the Bon Appetite Classic.

The Banana Slugs played host school Lewis and Clark Friday night, followed by George Fox on Saturday.

The team split the weekend series, loosing the first 99-66 to Lewis and Clark, and winning the second 80-64 against George Fox.

Despite struggling in the opener, UC Santa Cruz bounced back with the victory over George Fox. 

The slugs were lead by their trio of team captains.

Juniors Trent Reeves and Spencer Wells paced the slugs with 23 points each over two games. Sophomore James Townsend posted 26 points and 13 boards for the weekend.

In addition to steady play from the three captains, the Slugs got a boost against George Fox from Freshman Austin Steadman, who came off the bench to score 18 points and grab 7 rebounds.

UC Santa Cruz will takes its 1-1 record to San Jose State Tuesday night for their third game of the season.
