Slugs Romp On Senior Night
The Slugs ran off to an early 33-9 lead and coasted to an easy 62-43 victory over an overmatched but gritty UC Merced Bobcats. Behind 17 points from the long range shooting of Danielle Mofsowitz and 23 post points from Sarah Mackey (12) and Alison Scarbrough (11), the Slugs dominated the game from start to finish before a full house on Senior night. The game, however, belonged to the Seniors who combined for 36 points, 18 rebounds, and 10 assists.
This was the final home game for Kelly Gregg, Jen Marquez, Danielle Mofsowitz and Alison Scarbrough. Marquez, Mofsowitz and Scarbrough started their Slug careers in 2008. Gregg joined the group two years later after a successful career at Foothill. This fabulous four have been the foundation for this team since stepping on the court has a unit in 2010.
Coach Kent frequently speaks about the Senior's leadership abilities. They have been excellent examples to a fairly young (8 Freshmen and 4 Sophmores) 2011 UCSC team. The 12 wins so far this season are more than the past two seasons combined. The Seniors raised the bar on what it means to play UCSC Womens basketball.
Good luck to Kelly, Jen, Danielle, and Alison in their future endeavors. The Seniors have one more game to play on the 25th at Chapman University in Orange.
