Earl Cowell moved to Santa Cruz from the Chicago area in spring, 2010 and is entering his third season with the UC Santa Cruz women’s basketball team. Earl has many years of basketball experience as a player and coach. His professional career was in human resources in industry and service companies. Coach Cowell brings a significant amount of experience in leadership and program building.  "We are very lucky to have Earl's expertise and dedication in our program", Kent
said.  Coach Cowell's primary responsibility is Student-Athlete performance analysis and program development.

Earl is a graduate of Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio and holds a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).  Earl is married to Julia, a retired nursing professor. They have three grown children and four grandchildren. In addition to basketball, Earl enjoys outdoor sports.
