Women's Soccer Earn a 2-0 Victory over Holy Names University
Oakland, CA - - The UC Santa Cruz Women's Soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over NAIA opponent Holy Names University, improving to 5-2-1 on the season. This result gives the Slugs their third win in a row, all of which have been shutouts.
UCSC began with a rocky start, giving up three corners in the first ten minutes, but they were able to re-group shortly after. It was UCSC Senior Danielle Mullen who kicked off the scoring in the 20th minute when she struck an excellent corner kick, which went into the goal after a deflection by a Holy Names defender's shin. It was the Lady Slugs who controlled much of the play and led the match in shots. With fifteen minutes remaining in the 2nd half, UCSC sealed the game when Sophomore Wendy Funk had a great first touch into the box where she was taken down from behind before she could get a shot off. Senior Didi Ramirez, who has played extremely well in the midfield, stepped up to penalty kick and smashed it into the left corner off the post and into the back of the net.
The Lady Slugs look to continue their success as they travel to Division II CSU Monterey Bay on Wednesday, October 3rd. Please come out and support the UCSC Soccer program, as the men and women will pair up for a double header versus Menlo College on the Lower East Remote Field this Sunday, October 7th at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m!
