UCSC vs. Cal Lutheran

SANTA CRUZ, CA.---It looked like things were finally picking up for the Lady Slugs when Captain defensive midfielder Ritz Hernandez went on a flying run up the left side of the park. Ritz was able to capitalize on a cleanly placed pass from Roxanne Beltran 14 minutes into the game to whisk home a nice goal with the outside of her right foot to the side netting. UCSC got caught by a long-ball however, with just one minute to go in the first half which allowed #16 Kristina Hulse to tuck away the leveling goal. Emerging from half-time a bit on their heels, the Slugs were not able to fend off a chip #14 Kaitlin Walters of the Cal Lu offense put past Banana Slug goalkeeper Elle Vermillion at the 54 minute mark. Cal Lu once again was able to capitalize on a loose ball in the box at the 60 minute mark which #19 Brittany Clark tapped away. No. 20 nationally ranked Cal-Lu improved to 11-0-1 on the season while UCSC still looks for its first win.

Coach Schelhorse had this to say about the weekend, "Obviously we are in a goal scoring slump.  We are in every game, even scored first today, and just have not found a way to put teams away.  We have a very young squad that is still learning how to play together and be consistent over the course of the season, and during each game.  I believe we have the players in the program for us to be successful.  Although it is tough for them to see it now, all this experience will benefit them for their future in this program."
