UCSC vs. Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, CA.---After the 110 minute battle to a winless tie the evening prior at Occidental, the Slugs mustered up their energy and headed up the coast and inland to Ca Lu to take on the Regals on their home turf. Having just lost the match 1-3 the Monday prior to the Regals at UCSC, the Slugs hoped to improve upon this result. The warm and windy conditions ushered the Regals to capitalize and score first on a shot that snuck in at the right post by #16 Kristina Hulse at the 39 minute mark. The second half saw a lot of hustle and substitutions from both squads, but unfortunately for the Slugs, Ca Lu goalkeeper #23 Tina Hedwall was able to make a key save against Slug attacking midfielder sophomore Brooke Atkinson. Brooke's effort was tapping just past the left far post of the outstretched gloves of Hedwall.  The Regals put another opportunity away to seal their lead at the 49 minute mark when #17 Kristen Cameron put away a ball in the 6 yard box which she received from Hulse. The rest of the match was a scrappy battle in the air, but the Slugs came up short on goals for the day. They return to play the last of their home games in back to back games Oct 16th & 17th vs. Academy of Art and CSUSM.

"Playing back to back against this level of competition is very tough." Said coach Schelhorse.  "I think if we had a day of rest between games, the result would be different.  That being said, the D3 playoffs are formatted this way, and we will have to learn how to get results out of both games for the future."
