Banana Slugs Win GSAC Women’s Tennis Championship

MACON (4-30) – The Banana Slugs played in the championship match of the 2016 Great South Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship against #2 seeded Agnes Scott College. The Banana Slugs won two of the three doubles matches played to defeat the Scotties 5-2.

Both teams won their last match. The Banana Slugs defeated Salem College 5-0 yesterday in Macon while the Scotties won 5-0 over Mills College earlier today.

The Banana Slugs won three singles matches, two matches went unfinished and the Scotties won one. In the #4 singles match between Ashley Brudzinski of UC Santa Cruz and Nikki Langford of Agnes Scott, Brudzinski defeated Langford 6-0, 6-0. In the #6 singles match between Eva Buciek of the Banana Slugs and Jumara Master of the Scotties, Buciek defeated Master 6-0, 6-0. In the #1 singles match between Sylvia Brummitt of UC Santa Cruz and Maddie Hoffman of Agnes Scott, Hoffman defeated Brummitt 7-5, 6-4. The #2 singles match (Islay Fossett of the Banana Slugs vs. Taylor Lee of the Scotties) and the #3 singles match (Zoe Brook of UC Santa Cruz vs. Camille Wilson of Agnes Scott) went unfinished. The tightest singles match of the day was the #5 singles match between Amy Leslie of UC Santa Cruz and Magdalena Wimmler of Agnes Scott. Leslie defeated Wimmler 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

The Banana Slugs won two doubles matches and the Scotties won one. In the #2 doubles match between Brudzinski and Fossett of UC Santa Cruz vs. Langford and Wilson of Agnes Scott, Brudzinski and Fossett defeated Langford and Wilson 8-2. In the #3 doubles match between Brook and Buciek of the Banana Slugs vs. Master and Wimmler of the Scotties, Brook and Buciek defeated Master and Wimmler 8-0. The tightest doubles match was the #1 doubles match between Brummitt and Stephanie Graziano of UC Santa Cruz vs. Hoffman and Lee of Agnes Scott. Hoffman and Lee defeated Brummitt and Graziano 8-3.
