While Evie Borchard climbed to number two all time on the school's performance list for 5 kilometers, the men's team had a tight DIII team battle at Willamette University's Charles Bowles Invitational.
Borchard, a sophmore, finished 13th overall in 18:27 and was the third NCAA DIII runner in the women's race. The women's team finished 7th overall in DIII competition while host Willamette took the team title. Senior Jessica Meyer finished 33rd overall in 19:00 which put her just outside of the school's top 10 performance list.
In the men's race, 11 points separated 4th place from 7th with the Santa Cruz men coming up just short in the scoring. Tyler Hoyt led the men home in 25:58 and 7th in DIII competition. Eddie Strnad had the performance of the day for the men with his 26:10 personal best.
The top 10 regionally ranked men and women return to competition at Santa Clara University's Bronco Invitational on Saturday October 13.
